It’s that time again – a new build is out. 0.13 is a minor update that fixes a few crashing issues that may have caused some issues. Additionally downloading your friends avatars requires far less CPU usage which gives much better responsiveness (especially noticeable when downloading many new avatars at once).
Finally I’ve introduced AppToDate support – you can grab AppToDate from http://www.apptodate.org/get. For those that don’t know AppToDate is a simple – but effective – application for making sure you have the latest version of applications on your Windows Mobile device.
You can grab the newest version in several ways;
- Pocket PC installation – Run this file from your phone
- Desktop installation – Run this file from your Desktop. Twaddle will be installed next time you sync with that PC
Alternatively you can always visit http://get.twaddle.mobi in your phone’s browser to download the most current version of Twaddle at any given time.
Finally, if you have Microsoft Tag Reader (visit gettag.mobi on your phone’s browser) installed on your phone you can scan the tag below.

Hello from Brazil. I am using Twaddle and it’s working very nice on my HTC Touch PocketPC.
I apologize for using this space for a possible bug report. Please, delete it if you don’t like it.
Unfortunatelly, I cannot post anything with accented characters. If I do so, Twaddle tries to send it but it fails. After testing and testing, I figured out that when I don’t use these characters, the content is posted without failures.
I’d also suggest an About dialog. I had to stop Twaddle and start it again just to check if I am using the latest version.
Congratulations for your great software.
This is an acceptable place for a bug report. Although I need to setup a bug tracker or something so it’s easier to manage reports.
Issues with non-ASCII characters is something people have reported recently (sorry, I’m an English speaker, so everything is ASCII in my testing). I’m actually looking into this issue tonight though with plans to have it resolved in an interim release.
While an About screen has its uses (particularly for distributing ways to contact me), Twaddle has support for AppToDate which automates the process of having the latest version of software.
This is a fantastic program.
But it continues running in the background after closing the window.
If you could add a true “exit” to the menu then we could control when the app is actively refreshing.
Other than that, it’s the best twitter app I have ever tried. But with the constant background operation I have uninstalled it
Thank you,
Roger
The application will respond to close requests, but in Windows Mobile when the icon at the top right is an X it’s actually minimise, not close. On certain ROMs (The stock HTC Touch Pro ROM for instance) there’s an option to close the application if you hold down on the X button.
You can always close it via Running Programs (Start > Settings, System Tab and click Memory then select the Running Programs tab. From here you can terminate applications).
Whilst an “Exit” menu item might work in the 0.1 version of the application where the Right Menu is used for navigation + view specific options, in the 0.2 (and above) navigation has been moved to the new icon bar at the bottom of the screen. The Right menu is solely for view-specific options (Reply, etc) and “Exit” would no longer fit in this menu.
If you don’t want it to automatically update set the Refresh Interval (Settings > Client) to 0 and it won’t automatically update. I’m not sure what your concern is in regard to leaving the application running; If it’s network usage, set the Refresh Interval to 0, and it won’t update automatically. If it’s battery life, you’d be better off either setting Refresh Interval to 0, or a very high value (Like 30 or 60 minutes). Starting Twaddle up is a fairly intense operation (as it loads everything from the database and verifies your account with Twitter) so if you’re going to be quitting and restarting it frequently (Eg. Every 15 minutes) it’d work out better on battery to leave it running.
